Creative Connections in Cockenzie: Intergenerational Art Workshops Posted April 2025

This spring we wrapped up a series of four free intergenerational art workshops at the Cockenzie Hub, supported by funding from Foundation Scotland’s Inch Cape Construction Fund.

Over the course of the sessions, 20 children, parents, grandparents, and carers came together to create, connect, and enjoy time in a welcoming, inclusive space. Each workshop provided all materials and refreshments, giving families the chance to try new techniques without financial barriers.

The atmosphere was joyful and relaxed, with everyone painting alongside grandchildren, and parents working with their children to explore colour, texture, and seasonal themes. Feedback showed that participants left feeling calmer, more confident, and proud of their artwork. One parent shared:

“It’s been so good to slow down and paint with my kids – we’ve not done something like this together before.”

We’ve loved seeing the artwork produced across these sessions: beautiful, atmospheric watercolours and fun mixed media studies, and we’re delighted that the project has sparked conversations about creativity, wellbeing, and connection.

We are grateful to Foundation Scotland and the Inchcape Construction Fund for making this project possible. Their support has allowed us to provide free, high-quality creative experiences for local families during a time when opportunities like this are more important than ever.
