Shorelarking through Summer: Creative Wellbeing at the Shore

From May through August, we were delighted to run a joyful season of Shorelarking workshops at our new Shorelark Studio in Cockenzie. These free sessions, made possible by National Lottery players, were focused on supporting carers and community members across East Lothian—offering a space to unwind, connect, and rediscover creativity as a tool for wellbeing.

Our new studio, nestled right on the boat shore, has proved the perfect setting. With the sound of the waves, views of the Forth, and the gentle pace of life by the harbour, participants found themselves naturally letting go of stress and embracing the present moment. Many shared how uplifting and calming the environment was before even picking up a brush.

Each session focused on intuitive drawing, watercolour, and mixed media exploration—designed to suit all experience levels. We even made the most of the sunshine with some en plein air sketching, capturing the beauty of Cockenzie from life. As always, the artwork created was both moving and inspiring, filled with colour, freedom, and joy.

We're so grateful to everyone who joined us and proud of the creative community growing around Shorelark. Here's to more art, connection, and sea air in seasons to come!
