✨ What to Expect

This relaxed weekend workshop is designed as a fun introduction to whimsical watercolour portraits.

We will use accessible techniques for building your confidence with portraits in a loose, intuitive style. 

We’ll explore expressive ways to capture the essence of a face—playing with light, colour, and texture while letting go of perfectionism.

Over the weekend, you'll:

🖌️ Build Foundations with a Playful Approach

• • Use supportive techniques like the ‘gridding’ method to help with drawing (no need to be confident at sketching!)
  • Study key facial features in monochrome to understand structure without the pressure of colour
  • Learn how to mix skin tones and build a harmonious limited palette
  • Experiment with atmospheric washes, textures, and playful mixed media to bring depth and interest to your portraits
  • Plan and complete at least one portrait study, guided and supported every step of the way

This weekend workshop is open to all levels to join, with a format designed as an introduction to portraits.

No portrait drawing experience? No problem! You’ll be fully supported with simple, effective drawing techniques and a warm, inclusive studio environment.
