'Curlew Grazing, North Berwick' - NEW Limited Edition Fine Art Print

'Curlew Grazing, North Berwick' - A Limited Edition Print by Kat Healy
Shorelark is thrilled to announce a new limited edition fine art print by East Lothian artist, Kat Healy. This exclusive artwork is not just a visual treat but a piece of local heritage and culture, capturing the essence of the Eurasian Curlew, a bird deeply rooted in Scottish folklore, poetry, and music.
A percentage of proceeds from this print will be donated to Curlew Action, a charity dedicated to raising the awareness and conservation of this special bird.
A Muse from the Scottish Highlands
The Eurasian Curlew, known for its distinct long, down-curved bill and haunting call, has been a muse for many Scottish artists and storytellers. Kat Healy, inspired by the bird's mythical presence in local lore, has beautifully encapsulated its ethereal qualities in her latest watercolour painting. This artwork draws its inspiration from the Scottish folk song 'Dream Angus', a song that Kat has personally covered and previously recorded, adding layers of personal and cultural significance to the piece.
A Summer of Creativity
Kat's journey to creating this new print was supported by the VACMA (Visual Artist and Craft Maker Awards) funding in 2023. This funding enabled her to delve into research and dedicate her summer to producing a series of original paintings, among which the Curlew painting was selected for this special print edition. This project is a testament to Kat's commitment to exploring and celebrating Scottish wildlife and folklore through her art.
The Artwork
The fine art print is atmospheric and textured with minimal brushwork. Utilising a warm, muted palette inspired by the landscape of East Lothian, the painting is a homage to the natural beauty surrounding us. It's more than just a depiction of a bird; it's an invitation to explore the mystical world that the Curlew inhabits, as seen through Kat's eyes.
